Why There is no proper history for Rawthers
I tried my best to find the history of rawther community with my limited historical reach. on July 2018, i traveled through all tamil muslim strong holds. From tenkashi to nagoor, took me 4 days to complete my journey.
What i found was, most of the people don't care their history. some people identified the name as old elite class. Rawthers build masjid, educational institutions and many more. After the Dravidian movement, people are afraid to use such names. people mostly change there community to lebbay (have communal reservation).
on the whole i found some information
1. Rawthers have some central asian ancestry mostly turks and they were experts in horses and no connection with arabs.
2. rawther is an elite surname on precolonial period. once they concentrated on trade, they become rich. once east india company arrived, they loose there business. and that affect there economical status also.
3. people with great history will be difficult to destroy. British completely destroyed our history and remove proud from us. on 19th century, they rewrite all histories based on there agenda.
4. Here comes saddest but truthful point. As per historian Susan Bailey, after the decline of Muslim's social status, every one started to claim to be the decadents of elite classes. most of the rawthers today have nothing to do with historical rawthers.
Even the government identified this. they started to give reservation for rawthers and marakkars (former elite classes in tamil muslims)
So today's Rawther community have less relation with historical figures. most of the original decedents are moved to kerala, malasia and singapore.
All tamil muslims in kerala identified as rawthers nowadays.

South Tamilnadu Rowthers are 80% non dravidian face structure nd mixed with Maravars community. Madurai,Sivaganga,Pudukottai,Ramnad Rowthers are very Rich people(Mirasudars-Landlords) bt they claims they're Maravars and Piramalai Kallars (Ambalakarar) converts and Northern TN Rowthers also a Affluent Backgrounds bt Southern parts Rowthers has more relationship with Thevar Community. Northern TN has 'Ravutha kumarasamy' temple for secularism made by Kongu Vellala Gounders for Ancestors of Rowthers and 'Muththal Ravuttar' was Warlord mostly in Draupathi temples and Southern TN some thevar Community family deity named Ravuthasamy Is a Rowther Muslim so Tamils peoples all are always wonderful peoples

The etymology of the word 'Rowther' is meaning 'Brave Horseman'.[5] and some scholars claims that word come raja-putra (Prince) from Rathore (Muslim Rajputs). Sometimes spelt as Ravutar/Ravuttar.They word Rowther might have originated from 'Rahut' which means 'Horse warrior', as they were Cavalry men in the army of a Chola king.[6] Rowthers is a Warriors status, as 'Muttal Ravuttar' in Draupathi temples.Ravuttars is found as eignteenth-century southern Tamil poligers,zamindars and cheftains.[7]
Muttal Ravuttar is that it is specifically as a Muslim that he figures as a kshatriya who"Protect the field" of the kindgom who ultimately Hindu ideal the Draupathi cult espouses with these consideration in mind, we may now look more closely at anomalous figure: First at the god himself and then myths, iconography,and rituals that define his relation to Draupathi and his role in her cult.
The Muttal Ravuttar derives its Second element from a term meaning Muslim Rowther (Cavalier, Horseman,or trooper).the term comes from Urdu Raut, apparently via a prakit derivation from 'raja-putra' (Prince).[7]

ReplyDeleteTamil scholars claims Rowthers are Turkish peoples they are powerful Military Cavalry based Elite Group and Chola and pandya ruled periods only muslims named Two groups they are Ravuttar (Turukkiyars-Thulukkar-Martial Race) and sonagars(Egypt Merchants-Commercial class) and later 16 & 17 centuries period Maraikayars and Lebbai community names come on literature and books also, Maraikayars are Good relationship with British government so they have Good history writtened by British scholars like Superior traders or Affluent trader powerful Sea traders etc bt they real is Rowthers and pattanis are more Elite prosperous Communities bcz they two Muslim communities are only have Martial status (Warrior status) in Tamilnadu. And Rowthers community conversation with Thevar and Nayakkar community as Mama (uncle),Machan,Mapla (cousin) its show they are warriorhood bloods nd other Muslims are traders (Marakkkars- fishing good traders they claims Arab mix with mukkuvar and paravar community, Lebbais-they claims arabs coming for teach Religious faith and laterly converted peoples in Tamilnadu) bt onething is clear All Tamil Muslims are connected with one Hindu Group
