Historically, Mana madurai was center of rawther community. During madurai sultan rule, tribe split into two. some of them joined with sultanate and most of them under cheif muthal rawther stayed with pandians. After the decline of sultanate, vijaya nagara rulers recruited rawthers in cavalry and created rawther regiment. But they keep telugu people as cheif due to lack of trust. They are rawther naidus, which literally means leaders of rawthers. Most of the rawthers are not happy under the telugu supremacy. They moved towards South tamil nadu and kerala Border. During naikar rule (around AD 1750), thelugus start targetting tamils with warrior background. They start capturing women from rawther community to threaten them. One prince or general tried to capture high-profile rawther merchant's daughter. Her 7 brothers tried to protect her. Enemies killed all her brothers and last brother break rice bag on the roof which killed the sister. Such incidents create troubles between ruling telulus and tamils. During the time, travancore King marthanda varma escaped from ettu veettil pillai's prosecution, reached to tamil people. Marthanda varma offer them protection and ask to fight for him. With the help of tamils, marthanda varma conquered travancore. There is a famous darga near to our place, where all rawthers were burried during the war. After the success, marthanda varma open markets for rawthers for trade. There is another famous story of muthal rawther and his two sons. They protect the vellalar community from madurai sultanate's prosecution during AD 1300. Kulashekara pandian's rawther army fight against malik kaffur to protect madurai. Rawthers of kerala still considering kulashekara pandian as their last king. They even named some of village and mosques to remember their favourite king.
